The foundation raised the money in six months, through support from local foundations, businesses, families and volunteer groups.

“Fund the Architect” is the first step in LEEF’s plans to raise $15 million to fund the construction of an approximately 45,000-square-foot addition and 45,000-square-foot renovation to the historic 1951 Lakewood Elementary structure.

The effort, which began last summer, aims to find a solution to inadequate physical facilities at Lakewood Elementary, including lack of natural light, poor indoor air quality and ventilation, insufficient acoustical separation between classrooms, substandard restroom facilities, cramped classrooms, limited state-of-the-art technology, deficient science, music and art facilities, and a small cafeteria accommodating only one grade level at a time.

Now that the $500,000 goal has been reached to “Fund The Architect,” the LEEF board will coordinate with Dallas ISD’s financial support of the project to proceed with architectural drawings.
