It’s Fourth of July weekend, and we’ve got all the neighborhood celebrations here.
Here’s an offer you can’t refuse: as part of their Summer Movie Nights series, the Sundown at Granada is having a screening of “The Godfather” this Wednesday at 8:30 pm. Admission is free and whiskey is half off.
Beginning this Thursday, June 29, the Pocket Sandwich Theater is presenting “Star Trip,” a satirical comedy based on Captain Kurt and Smok as they travel through space to defeat Darkness. Join volunteers from K-9 Search and Rescue at the Lakewood Library Auditorium this Friday, June 30, at 1 p.m. as they discuss, with the help of their furry friends, how they search and find missing people and pets in the aftermath of natural disasters and emergencies.
Let your pup soak up the fun at a puppy pool party this Saturday, July 1, from 2-6 p.m. at Haymaker Dallas. There will be kiddie pools, dog toys and free samples while owners can enjoy drink specials and sno-cones. Part of the sales from the event will be donated to Dallas Dogrrr, which rescues some of the most needy dogs in Dallas.
Retired Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown will be at Half Price Books this Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m. to discuss and sign copies of his memoir “Called to Rise: A Life in Faithful Service to the Community That Made Me.” Numbered passes for specially priced books will be given out Thursday morning starting at 9 a.m.
If you enjoy pounding the pavement in the heat, then head to Winfrey Point Saturday morning at 8 a.m. for the Dallas Running Club‘s Independence Day 5k and 10k races. The race will take you around the lake and up White Rock Trail. Click here to register.
This Fourth of July weekend, celebrate the Red, White and Blues at the Dallas Arboretum from Saturday-Tuesday, and enjoy live blues music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The garden will feature a different band each day as well as $2 hot dogs and root beer floats.
Who doesn’t want a treat after they give blood? Hypnotic Donuts is hosting a blood drive from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at 9007 Garland Road, in the parking lot. There is nothing more American than an eating contest which is why Haymaker Dallas is hosting a Habanero house-pickled egg eating contest this Sunday. Join this Independence Day celebration by seeing how many pickled eggs you can eat in 5 minutes. The contest begins at 3 p.m. and there is a $20 entry fee. Each contestant gets a T-shirt and free drink of choice while the winner walks away with $250. You must be 18 years old to participate.

White Rock Hills Library will host the Southwest Dairy Farmers mobile classroom, where instructors will demonstrate how to milk a cow, describe how milk makes it from the farm to the consumer and then answer questions from the audience. The dairy experience is brought right to the children, and is targeted for second-eighth graders. The program will be just outside the library this Thursday, June 29 at 11 a.m.
The White Rock Hills Branch Library will also be hosting a free 1-hr yoga session on Sunday, July 2, from 1-2 p.m. in the auditorium.
