Now in its 44th year, the Swiss Avenue Mother’s Day Home Tour is an iconic collection of events that draws visitors from all over the city to explore the stately mansions of the historic street. The house tour runs Saturday from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon-6 p.m. Then there is the Mother’s Day Brunch in Savage Park on Sunday from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. The weekend also includes a car show, art fair and other goodies. If you prefer something more modern, there’s a home tour for you. The Spring Modern Home Tour includes four cutting edge homes, three of which are in East Dallas. The tour is set for Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance (available here online) or $25 the day of the event. Get all the details here.

Stonewall Jackson Elementary School is hosting a spring cleaning workshop to spruce up the school’s iconic garden and chicken coop. Join other volunteers in working at the school this Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. You can come for part or all of the workday, but just be sure to sign up here so they know who to expect.

The Dallas Arboretum’s “Cool Thursday Concert Series” features Who’s Bad, a Michael Jackson tribute. The show is at 7:30, but gates open at 6 p.m. There will be food trucks on site, so grab a blanket and have a musical picnic. Tickets are $10-$28 for a single show, or you can buy a pass for the whole season.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Church Young Adult group is launching a weekly kick-ball event every Thursday from May 11-June 8. Pick-up games will take place at 7 p.m. in the athletic field behind the church, 6303 Kenwood Ave. They’ll also offer other games like corn hole, trap ball and ultimate football.

Midnight Passion, a local theater troop that specializes in improv, will craft a hilarious melodrama based on audience suggestions this weekend. The show can be seen Friday or Saturday at 11 p.m. at Pocket Sandwich Theater, 5400 Mockingbird. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a nonprofit focused on sensible firearm legislation, will host a talk on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 2443 Abrams. The discussion will focus on current legislation under review and will feature Donna Schmidt, leader of the Dallas chapter of MDAGSA. There is no charge to attend.

It’s the second Saturday of the month, so Rejuvenating Lifestyles at 2108 Kidwell is hosting its monthly free session. The 75-minute dance class is meant for women of all abilities and takes place from 2:30-3:45 p.m. There’s no charge to attend, but you should register here.

Contemporary Ballet Dallas will showcase the work of its adult performers on Friday from 7:30-10 p.m. at the studio, 5400 E. Mockingbird. Tickets are $5 at the door.

See the talents of your friends and neighbors at the 53rd annual Lakewood Library Art Show, on display all month. Around 70 local residents contributed more than 100 pieces for this exhibit, which can be viewed any time the library is open. Vote for your favorite to help name the People’s Choice Award winner.

The Bath House Cultural Center continues the exhibit “The Extraordinary Tale: Magic Realism in Art” of works by artists from Texas, California, North Carolina, Mexico and El Salvador. It runs along side “Contemplation: Photographs by Gabriella Castaneda Pruitt.”  Both shows will be on display through June 3 and are free to visit any time the Bath House is open to the public.
