Update: The coffin races have been canceled due to an issue with park event permits. A reservation for Trocars Dallas still stands and the afternoon will include a picnic and a chance to drop by and get to know the group.
Make sure you visit Flagpole Hill on Saturday and be a part of Dallas Trocars 2017 Casket Races at 12 p.m. Watch adventurous racers ride casket-shaped soapbox racers down the hill, or build your own racer to compete. The event also requests that “if you have a hearse, please bring it out too.”
Make a splash with with Moana at the Tietze Park pool on Friday night. Bring a blanket to watch from the deck, or watch in the pool like Moana would. Hosted by Dallas Aquatics, the pool will close at 8 p.m. and the pool will allow re-entry for the movie. Admission is $1 for those 11 and under, and $2 for 12 and older.
As a neighborhood that has been affected by our own fair share of tragedy, we have a chance to support our friends across the pond when the Dubliner hosts a benefit to raise funds for those hurt in the terrorist attacks in Manchester and London. This is the Place: A Benefit for Britain will be hosted by Britpop Club and the entertainment group Damaged Goods at the local pub. They will be selling raffle tickets for various vinyl record prizes. Raffle tickets will be $5 for one, or 5 for $20.

Money collected during the event will go to the We Stand Together Manchester fund and will also contribute to London victims once a legitimate fund has been established. The benefit is Saturday, June 8, from 8 p.m.-close.
The Wine Therapist will host a pop-up fundraiser Friday, June 9, for Dallas Endowment for Endangered Properties (DEEP), which works to preserve historic buildings around Dallas. Of the total bill, 20 percent will be donated to DEEP, so raise a glass for historical preservation.
The White Rock Hills Library Film Club is showing an Oscar winner this weekend. Though they can’t tell you what the movie is due to licensing agreements, the Nextdoor.com announcement makes it clear that the movie is Academy award juggernaut “Lala Land.” The showing is free, includes popcorn and an active discussion to follow the film. See it this Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
White Rock Hills Library is also hosting a mobile Dairy Farm. The Southwest Dairy Farmers Mobile Classroom Presentation will demonstrate how to milk a cow, describe how dairy goes from farm to market, and answer audience questions. While the program can be enjoyed by farmers of all ages, it is targeted for second-eighth graders. The milking begins Friday at 11 a.m.
Half Price Books presents “From Word to Sight: Animal Allegory in Charcoal and Oils.” Come take in the artistic talent of one of the stores very own employees, Hillary Higgins. Her latest works capture narrative animal images ensconced in literary devices. The reception is on Friday, June 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Flagship HPB Community Room. A portion of each sale will benefit the SPCA of Texas.
Take in some morning yoga on the rooftop of HG Supply Co. This joint yoga and brunch event is hosted by CorePower, and will begin at 10 a.m. with brunch and mimosas to follow. Tickets are $30 and include: Rooftop yoga, brunch buffet, and a mimosa special.
The Bathhouse Cultural Center is celebrating LGBT Pride Month with a two-week run of “Brides of the Moon” by The Five Lesbian Brothers. In the story, an all-female astronaut team joins a male crew to develop the galaxy’s most luxurious locale. The five-woman company plays all nine characters, changing roles at a rocket’s pace between the heavens and the Earth. Viewer and parental discretion is advised for this campy, sci-fi sex comedy. The opening show is June 8 at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $10-$30.
Dust off your flannel and ripped jeans for ’90s night at Stan’s Blue Note. ’90s cover band Hootie and the Gin Sprockets will be rocking out and singing all your favorite jams. The concert starts at 9 p.m.
Union Coffee house will be hosting a youth poetry slam full of presence and professionalism. This exciting open mic event is open to youth ages 11-19. The event is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
