Our neighborhood Y recently received a $5,000 Eco-Start grant from Constellation Energy that will allow six area teens to attend eco-conservative and outdoor recreation camps this summer, free of charge.

Camp scholarship recipients can choose from several camps including: a “go green” camp, intro to rowing clinic, canoeing camp, and an overnight camping adventure to Turner Falls, Oklahoma. The grant will also provide the funds for the Y to purchase a digital camera to document the experience, transportation for campers to service projects and field trips and the purchase of program supplies.

The camps will provide 13 – 17 year olds with outdoor activities, hands-on eco-conservation action and service learning. Scholarship recipients will be decided based on essay and their overall application. The YMCA at White Rock is accepting applications through May 25 and will announce recipients by June 3.
