Writers with ethical dilemmas are in luck this weekend: The Writers Garret is hosting two events. Starting Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. is the free event “The Anxiety of Influence” at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary at 3120 McKinney. The panel will discuss the ways writers are influenced by other writers, and when that begins to interfere with originality.

Then on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1–3 p.m. is “Adventures in Life through Creative Non-Fiction” at Lucky Dog Books on 10801 Garland. Edie Bakker, an award-winning author who wrote a 1994 National Geographic article about anthropology expeditions, will lead a discussion on the purpose of creative nonfiction and how to avoid letting your prose-y truth become a Million Little Pieces fiasco. The event is free but donations are appreciated.
