Longtime Woodrow Wilson High School football coach and athletic director Bobby Estes called it quits Monday, stepping down from both positions to spend more time with his wife and family.
For the past 21 years, Estes has led Woodrow’s football team to multiple playoff berths and a slew of winning seasons.
In a 2011 interview with the Advocate, Estes talked about the program and his pride in the school’s student athletes. Among hundreds of Woodrow students, Estes oversaw the high school careers of eventual pro athletes Sergio Kindle and Greg McCoy (NFL) and Anthony Randolph (NBA).
Estes also talked the Advocate about his efforts to ensure that all students who want to participate in Woodrow athletics get that chance, with multiple students involved in more than one sports program during their high school careers.
Estes told the Morning News he isn’t necessarily done with coaching, though, and said he could be coaching again as soon as next fall.
