With all of the discussion about DISD cutbacks due to the budget issues, Woodrow Wilson High School PTA president Emily Martin is circulating a list of volunteer needs at the school. The list, which you can view in MS Word format by clicking here, runs the gamut from tutoring and working as a substitute teacher to working as a hall monitor or acting as a "runner" for counselors. In other words, no matter what you’re level of experience, there’s a job for you at the school, if you would like to make a difference with this group of neghborhood high school students. If you’re interested, you can call the school office at 972-502-4400; you’ll need to register online as a DISD volunteer, providing enough information to allow DISD administrators to check you out prior to beginning your volunteer stint. In fact, once you’ve filled out the online form and been approved, you can register at any neighborhood DISD school to help with their programs — and trust me on this, they can all use help of one sort or another.
