Woodrow Wilson High School Football heads into district play this Friday against Molina High School and are hoping to repeat as district champions.
The Wildcats are 3-1 after impressive wins against Kimball, South Garland and Frisco, and losing a tough match against perennial power Frisco Wakeland.
Woodrow is led by senior quarterback Cade Fennegan, whose 62.5 percent completion rate has led to over 600 yards and 11 touchdowns in the first four games. Fennegan has also rushed for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns on the year. He is joined by leading rusher Christian Ontiveros, averaging almost 6 yards a carry, and top receivers Zacori Alexander and Matthew Best, who both have over 15 catches on the year.
The team has received plenty of great press this year, with senior receiver Travis West winning the Wing Stop Scholar Athlete of the Month in September. West, who had three touchdowns in the first game of the year, broke his arm blocking a kick in that game and hopes to return to action soon. West has verbally committed to play football at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Woodrow’s defense has been stout as well, holding opponents to under two touchdowns in three of the four games. The defense is led by senior Cole McCrary, who broke his hand before the first game, but has played through the injury and recorded 50 tackles, with one goal line stop that preserved the victory against Frisco. The Dallas Morning News covered his on-the-field heroics and battle through injury this week.
The Wildcats take on Molina this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Franklin Stadium, 10000 Hillcrest Ave.
