The White Rock Lake Foundation has an ambitious list of potential projects for the future of White Rock Lake. The 1,000-acre lake and the park that surrounds it have been the recipient of numerous projects over the years, and the new signs and improvements to the Winfrey Point clubhouse are just the latest options.

The White Rock Lake Foundation was established in 1989 to coordinate the community and benefit of White Rock Lake Park. The nonprofit works with the city and park department to help implement the master plan for the park. They have helped raise money and support to dredge the lake, create trail and parking developments, make pedestrian bridges, build stone signage and much more.

The foundation is currently working on restocking the bass population in the lake, improving the fishing piers and addressing better lighting at the lake. The organization has several events throughout the year, including a golf tournament, a night of music and food and an environmental awareness dinner to help educate and raise money for the lake.

Susan Falvo, who has been on the board of the foundation for years, says they have a few more projects on their radar. First, they are working on a portal sign for the T&P Hill entrance and an awning for the baseball fields at Winfrey Park.

They also would like to add some directional signage around the lake like the signs on the Santa Fe Trail. The signs would show the distance between certain points on the trail and a map of the area. The stylized signs on the Santa Fe Trail are helpful and eye catching, and are sponsored by local businesses. These signs are not part of the master plan for White Rock Lake Park and would need to be approved by the White Rock Task Force and the Dallas Park Department before they could be implemented.

Falvo says the board has also discussed some aesthetic improvements to the Winfrey Point clubhouse. A 2,500-square-foot facility overlooking the lake could use some fixing up. She says that project would most likely follow the signage at the lake.
