The Historic Preservation League has good news for anyone who has ever wanted to rehab a house, write a newsletter for their community group, or learn about the real estate market in historic neighborhoods.

The league will open the Wilson House Preservation Center during the next couple of months, and its resources will allow neighborhood residents to do just that – thanks to a grant from the Meadows Foundation.

“This is a pretty unique thing,” says Catherine Horsey, the league’s new executive director. “I don’t know of too many other cities in the country that will have this sort of resource.”

The Wilson Center, 2922 Swiss, will serve as a clearinghouse for information about historic buildings and historic neighborhoods:

• The marketing center will promote the City’s historic neighborhoods and explain the benefits of owning an historic home. It will be geared toward real estate professionals.
• The resource center will feature information about techniques, sources for materials, financial incentives contractors and other issues regarding the actual work of rehabilitating older homes.
• The information center, with touch-screen computers, will provide presentations about historic sites, neighborhoods and preservation activities.
• The publications center, with desktop publishing equipment, will give neighborhood groups a place to put together newsletters and brochures.
• The first part of the Wilson Center will open Nov. 1, with the other parts opening during the next few months. For information, call 821-3290.
