One in five children in Dallas County experiences food insecurity, the release said. Based in East Dallas, Wilkinson Center is collecting donations and food through Aug. 31.

The nonprofit’s goal is to raise $175,000, 252,000 meals and 2,500 volunteer hours, ultimately aiming to feed 6,000 children this summer.

“With children out of school and the absence of school-provided meals, summertime only adds to our clients’ anxiety and insecurity about food,” said Daley Ryan, executive director of Wilkinson Center. “The community’s support of this year’s Stock Up for Summer campaign will truly impact the families we serve, and will ensure that no child in Dallas goes hungry on any given day, but especially this summer.”

Community members can contribute by hosting a food drive, donating to a virtual food drive via the Amazon Wishlist, volunteering at the center or donating online.

Wilkinson’s Food Distribution Center is located at 3402 North Buckner Blvd.
