The shooting happened at about 10:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Peavy Road during an argument between two friends, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Bobby Roberts, 56, is charged in the murder of 54-year-old Richard Pena, according to the Morning News.

A witness who was with the men when the fight broke out said the longtime friends “playfully argued” often, according to the affidavit. It is unclear what argument led to the shooting.

The affidavit states that Roberts pulled out a handgun, and Pena replied, “If you pull out a gun, you better intend to use it.”

Pena was shot once in the chest and died at the scene. The witness said Pena had not made any threats or gestures prior to the shooting, according to the affidavit.

Roberts was booked Saturday into the Dallas County jail, where he remained Tuesday on $100,000 bond.
