The body of a black transgender woman was found Saturday evening in White Rock Lake, NBC affiliate Channel 5 reported.
A passerby found the body, and police were called to the scene around 5:45 p.m. A game warden pulled the body because he was afraid it would float back into the lake, authorities said.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim’s race and gender Monday but did not identify the individual. The cause of death was not released.
The discovery of the woman’s body comes less than two weeks after the murder of Muhlaysia Booker, also a black trans woman, who was found shot to death in the 7200 block of Valley Glen Drive. Dallas police said at the time they were investigating whether there was a connection between Booker and two other attacks on transgender women, one of which was fatal.
The first attack happened in October 2018 when 29-year-old Brittany White was found shot to death in a vehicle in Southeast Dallas. The second attack happened in April when a transgender woman was stabbed multiple times near the intersection of Spring Avenue and Lagow Street in Southeast Dallas.
Dallas police will speak at a news conference Monday evening, and we will update when more information is available.
