It was a reunion full of hugs, tail wags and puppy dog kisses when Whisky was reunited with his human in September 2018. The Hungarian vizsla hadn’t seen owner Mercedes Ulibarri for two years while she was living in London for work. Now, the two are making up for lost time. “It was emotional for me,” Ulibarri says. “He wouldn’t let me out of his sight for a few days. He was afraid I was going to leave again.” Whisky, whose breed is known for its attachment to humans, follows Ulibarri around town to patios like Mutts, BrainDead Brewing and HG Sply Co. Then it’s off to White Rock Lake. The 4-year-old with reddish brown fur — which looks like the drink that inspired his name — loves to run, hike and be outdoors, Ulibarri says. After all that excitement, he likes to come home for snuggles and a well-deserved nap. He doesn’t let his 60-pound frame stop him from being a lap dog. “He sounds like an old-man dog shaking the house with his snoring,” she says. But the occasion does provide a chance for the Lakewood neighbor to snap a photo of her camera-shy pet to post on his Instagram account, shots.of.whisky. “For how much he loves attention, he doesn’t like camera attention,” she says. “I have to be covert.”Â
