I am once again proud of the outstanding leadership teams at our schools. Some of our schools have new principals, and each one has an extensive resume of success. Here is a little information about the new District 2 principals:

  • Kourtnei Billups, who most recently served as an assistant principal at L.V. Stockard Middle School, is the new principal at K.B. Polk Center for the Academically Talented and Gifted. Billups is a servant leader originally from Virginia who has a passion for educating and providing opportunities for others. Fun fact: Billups loves to visit thrift stores, finding the hidden beauty in ordinary things.
  • Roger Ceballos will serve as principal at Benjamin Franklin Middle Schoolafter working at the school since 2013, most recently as assistant principal. Ceballos, who served eight years of active duty in the United States Navy, views a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and students. Fun fact: In his free time, Ceballos enjoys reading and spending time with his family.
  • Vincent Garcia will lead Preston Hollow Elementary School after accomplishing great things as principal at Cesar Chavez Learning Center. At Chavez Learning Center, Garcia turned around the campus to meet standards and achieve multiple distinctions, as well as implemented a Professional Learning Community model to improve student achievement. Fun fact: In his spare time, Garcia enjoys running marathons and rides his motorcycle as often as he can.
  • Michael Moran, who most recently served as assistant principal at Bryan Adams High School, is returning to Woodrow Wilson High School—where he taught from 2008–2011—as principal. Moran began his education career as a high school English teacher in 2001 and, over the past 17 years, has served as a varsity tennis coach, yearbook sponsor, mentor teacher, Campus Instructional Coach and assistant principal. Fun fact: Despite no longer coaching tennis, Moran is still a certified instructor through the U.S. Professional Tennis Association and dreams of watching the championships at Wimbledon one day.
  • Mick Sandoval will lead William Lipscomb Elementary Schoolafter spending 22 years in education, with 14 of those years as a principal. Sandoval is also the proud dad of four kids. Fun fact: While in high school, Sandoval performed with his orchestra at Carnegie Hall.
  • Having served the past three years as principal at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, Joseph Sotello will now lead Hillcrest High School. Sotello looks forward to contributing to and being a part of the many great traditions Hillcrest has to offer. Fun fact: Sotello is a huge New York Yankees fan.
