The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and following festival is one of the more fun, if not drunken and messy, events to hit Lower Greenville each year, taking place this Saturday.
The morning begins with the Dash Down Greenville 5k at 8 a.m. at Central Market. See the course map or register here. The Lower Greenville Bloc Party begins at 9 a.m. in the 2800-2900 blocks, and includes plenty of bites and brews, made up by hotspots like Stan’s Blue Note, Terilli’s, The Dubliner, Blue Goose, The Grape, Greenville Bar and Grill, and Dodie’s.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. at the corner of Greenville and Blackwell Street and will be full of traditional green garb and Irish themes until 2 p.m. At that point, Greenville becomes a sort of roving party, with plenty of drinking. Stay safe, as Dallas Police will be patrolling the area for bad behavior and drunk drivers. Numerous roads will be shut down, including Greenville between Park Lane and Mockingbird from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. See a full list of parking and street restrictions here.
In conjunction with the big green holiday, seemingly every bar and restaurant in the area is hosting a St. Patty’s Day party of some sort. Click on the business to see details of their party:

A new fine arts exhibit opens at the Bath House Cultural Center this Saturday. Curated by Cynthia Miller, “In This Day and Age” explores the theme of motherhood and parenting through photography. There will be an opening reception with the artists from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday. There is no charge to attend. The work will be displayed through April 22 and is free to view anytime the Bath House is open.
Contemporary Ballet of Dallas offers a free preview of their spring showcase from 6-7 p.m. on Saturday. Head over to the school at 5400 E. Mockingbird to see highlights from the show, which takes place April 7-8 at the Latino Cultural Center.
Union Coffee at 5622 Dyer hosts a night of Shakespeare with the Junior Players on Friday. The nonprofit theater company will offer classic scenes from 6:30-8 p.m. There is no charge to attend.
St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts on Abrams has paired up with the Dallas Bach Society for “Suites for Unaccompanied Cello” featuring Eric Smith on violoncello and violoncello piccolo. Smith is known for his light touch and has performed with the likes of Orchestra of New Spain, Texas Camerata, Ars Lyrica Houston, Sonare, Ensemble VIII, Denton Bach Society, Dallas Chamber Players, Bach Society of Houston, Mountainside Baroque, New York’s Concert Royal, and the New York Baroque Dance Company. The free concert takes place on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The comedy improve group Midnight Passion will offer “An Improvised Fairy Tale” on Saturday at 11 p.m. at Pocket Sandwich Theater. Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

In conjunction with the annual “Dallas Blooms” event, the arboretum will host Vintage Garden of Games, where the classic CandyLand comes to life with gumdrop mountains and a peppermint forest. See the magic on Friday from noon-5 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday all day, with the addition of live music from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The event is free with the cost of admission ($12-$15 plus $8 parking fee).
While it may be outside our neighborhood, this Sunday’s Soul food dinner “Here Comes the Sun” at Parigi Restaurant, 3311 Oak Lawn Ave., does benefit one of our neighborhood nonprofits. Promise of Peace Community Garden provides outdoor education and freshly grown foods for dozens in East Dallas. The event will include a gourmet dinner, live music and wines from Oak Cliff Cellars. Tickets are $75 and available here.
