Well, there’s no need to hold this election. Visitors to the Dallas Business Journal web site have decided that either Max Wells or Tom Leppert will be our new mayor. Glad that’s over with.

Wells got 28 percent and Leppert got 27 percent in what the Business Journal said was an entirely unscientific poll, and that’s probably truer than the weekly knows. Don Hill, who has been called a front runner by so many people that I almost believe it, got 1 percent of the vote. Which leads me to believe that the Business Journal’s web site doesn’t get too many hits from south of the Trinity.

Can anything be read from this? Probably not, considering how many people are likely to have voted in this who don’t live in Dallas (like Seagoville’s Steve Blow) or who stuffed the ballot box for their candidates. The only thing that is halfway intriguing is that Gary Griffith got just 2 percent of the vote, which one would have thought would have been higher just because he’s Gary Griffith.

And just to show what good sports we are at BackTalk, we’re going to have a mayoral prediction contest — complete with real, live prizes — that will go up later this week. All are welcome to participate, even our friends at D and Mr. Blow. I’m a firm believer in putting your money where your mouth is.
