The construction of new wastewater mains in District 9 on Garland Road/St. Francis Avenue/San Fernando Way/San Rafael Drive is projected to make progress this week.
The construction will include approximately 4,300 feet of 30-inch diameter wastewater main. Pipelines for the project will be installed through tunneling. Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) issued a public notification letter in October of 2022 and an update letter regarding the project’s completion earlier this year in July.
As of Nov. 15 of this year, the project has roughly 60% of the pipeline installation complete, with construction efforts being placed on hold due to the demobilization of a subcontractor, according to a notice from the City. After disputes regarding payment, the City is now in the process of hiring a new contractor to complete the construction.
According to the notice, on Wednesday, Dec. 11, City Council will be reviewing the authorization of the construction services contract with the new contractor. If the contract is approved, the contractor will be expected to mobilize for construction in late January/early February 2025 — completing the project by summer 2025.
Until then, the existing site and open shafts have been deemed secure and will continue to be monitored by DWU staff.
