The City Plan Commission delayed until July 10 a public hearing on a plan from Trammel Crow to build a shopping center anchored by Sam’s Club on 17 acres the company owns in the Cityplace neighborhood.

At least 30 neighbors, wearing red in solidarity, showed up to the plan commission meeting Thursday with stickers declaring “no big box stores.”

Trammell Crow wants to call its development East Village.

Commission member Gabe Soto said the panel has received “countless correspondence” from neighbors in opposition to the plan.

“We would like to meet with the developer,” in advance to a public hearing on the matter, he said.
