Vagabond aims to claim the coveted title of ‘neighborhood bar’

I’ve been eyeing Vagabond, the bar along Greenville that opened in March, for a while now. Last night, I finally found some time to drop by. A little over two months into business, the beer-and-cocktail-centric company has already come a long way, and they’re not stopping yet.

Bar manager Steven Vasquez says the bar is tagging onto the revitalization of Greenville and hopes to become a neighborhood bar to the surrounding residential areas. “We just felt like this end of Greenville needed a neighborhood bar,” he says.

Aside from craft beers and cocktails, they serve American food — mostly sandwiches, appetizers, and salads. They’re planning to update their menu in the next couple of weeks and recently started serving brunch. They also recently began hosting live music every Wednesday night and Bocce Ball games every Tuesday. (The winners of the tournament win one of Vagabond’s “coveted” mid-century lamps as a trophy, but let’s be honest; most people just come for the drink specials.)

Vasquez says they plan to start a “pretty aggressive” happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. soon. They also have a valet service on the to-do list to “remedy the parking situation.” And finally, they also have to get an actual neon sign for the front of the building. Right now, there’s simply a note painted above the front door, “neon sign goes here.”
