The Woodrow Wilson and Bryan Adams football teams struggled against teams outside Dallas ISD the past two years, but games could become more competitive in upcoming seasons.
On Monday, the University Interscholastic League released new districts as it does every two years to accommodate new schools and changes in enrollment.
The football teams’ new district includes familiar foes like Sunset and Samuell.
The good news is perennial state champ Highland Park got bumped to another district. The bad news is the school was replaced by another football powerhouse, Lancaster.
But with six DISD schools in the nine-team district, Woodrow and Bryan Adams will have more opportunities for success.
In the last district, the four DISD teams, including Woodrow and Bryan Adams, were 0-32 against the rest of the division, according to the Dallas Morning News. The lopsided recorded could be attributed to the difference in size between inner-city football rosters and their opponents, which usually have more resources too.
That has prompted some district coaches to petition the UIL to consider socioeconomic factors in its alignments.
