Rebecca Miller isn’t the only one. The CBS affiliate in the Rio Grande Valley has forced out its long-time weatherman, a local legend named Larry James. His crime? Apparently, it’s that he had been at the station since 1964. Said the station manager, in one of the great quotes of all time: "In fairness to the people who work here and people who don’t work here, I think it’s only fair that I not comment."

The ex-TV journalist who sent this to me said James’ "retirement" has all the earmarks of what happened to Miller, who was on the Channel 5 telecast one day and gone the next. Ratings go down, the bosses need to find a scapegoat, and if the boss is new (which is the case here, and the company that owns the station is new as well), the older, less attractive employees get axed.
