Greetings, District 2!
I hope you all had a gold medal summer! It’s hard to believe we are already a few weeks into the school year, and Dallas ISD is in full swing! Please find this month’s newsletter below:
Dallas ISD District 2 Monthly Updates:
Growing Enrollment! Welcoming 139,000-plus students this school year, we are excited about our strong enrollment. Dallas ISD’s school choices, quality teachers and leadership, innovative programs, and multiple pathways are attracting families. Safety continues to be top of mind, with new protocols implemented for this year’s athletic events.
Grades Are In: Embracing the challenges posed by new state testing standards, and continuing in its second year of district-wide implementation of high-quality instructional materials, Dallas ISD is laser focused on boosting student achievement. In the interest of transparency, the district shared its projected 2023-2024 accountability ratings.
What’s Cooking: As featured in D Magazine this month, Dallas ISD’s Executive Chef and cafeteria supervisors, are nourishing our students and working towards better taste and less waste.
August Board Meeting Debrief:
In August, Dallas ISD had its first regular board briefing and meeting of this school year. I’ve chosen to highlight a couple of items below:
- STAAR Results from the 2023-2024 school year were discussed. While literacy results are generally consistent with prior year and above pre-pandemic levels, math scores declined, in keeping with districts across the state, where scores have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels. There is a lot of hard work to be done, and Dallas ISD is fully dedicated to further improving student outcomes.
- District Goals and Constraints Resetting Process: One of the most important duties we have are goals and constraints, which drive the district’s work and accountability. This month, the Board Superintendent Evaluation Committee held two meetings in addition to the board briefing to discuss the process by which we will set the vision and direction of the district. We are moving toward doing deep community listening in the fall by seeking input from stakeholders to identify community priorities and concerns. We will pair this information with district analysis of highest needs to set our future goals and constraints.
Dallas ISD Bond Construction Update:
The new Geneva Heights Elementary School is complete, along with four additional new replacement campuses in the district! Across the district, campus infrastructure upgrades funded by the proceeds from the 2020 Bond continue, details of which can be found on the Bond 2020 dashboard.
As always, please reach out to me if you have thoughts, ideas, questions, concerns, or simply want to say hello!
Best,
Sarah Weinberg
