• City councilman Dwaine Caraway unveiled his plan to ban plastic bags in Dallas at yesterday’s city council meeting, reports Rudy Bush at The Morning News. It’s ambitious – would also prohibit most paper bags as well. The councilman “is sick and tired of seeing the bags strung in trees and high grass in his southern Dallas district.”
• The City Council will vote next week to name the Dallas Convention Center after former Republican U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. This should breeze through the council – the only question will be who will offer the most effusive praise in honor of Hutchison.
• Gov. Rick Perry is spending $42,000 to tell Chicago businesses that they should move to Texas, following a similar effort to lure California jobs to the state. Says the governor: “…you need to get out while there’s still time. The escape route leads straight to Texas…” As a native Chicagoan, I would warn Perry about two things: First, there are some neighborhoods I would advise him not to visit, and please, whatever you do, don’t come home with the Cubs. We have enough problems of our own.
