Tonight, Thursday, Jan. 20, book reviewer/actress Arlene Colbert will portray Julia Child from the time of her book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, published in 1961, to the time of her death in 2004. The event is from 6-8 p.m. at the Lakewood Library.

Contemporary Dance Fort Worth presents the 10th annual Barefoot Brigade Dance Festival with performances at 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Bath House Cultural Center. The festival features dance companies from all over Texas. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $15 otherwise.

“The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” opens at the Dallas Children’s Theater Friday. It runs through Jan. 27.

The Granada Theater has Dallas-based bands This Will Destroy You and the Boom Boom Box Friday. Tickets are $12-$16. And on Saturday, James McMurtry performs. Tickets for that are $15-$25.
