This Saturday, July 27, sip adult beverages and bid in a silent auction at the third annual Merlot 4 Mutts, hosted by Habitat 4 Paws. The event will be held at the Wine Therapist at 1810 Skillman from 3-5 p.m. Two glasses of wine and light finger food are included with the $30 entry fee. Beer will also be available. Dress is casual. All proceeds raised will help Habitat 4 Paws move one paw closer to establishing a rescue shelter for dogs and cats in need of a forever home. Grab your loppers, your work gloves and your water bottles, and join For the Love of the Lake at 7:30 a.m. this Saturday, July 27, to help prepare the Big Thicket at White Rock Lake for the hundreds of trees volunteers will be planting there this fall. The number of volunteers who can help plant trees this fall will be limited, so if you help prepare now, you can also help plant later. Afterwards, lunch will be provided. The event is in the Big Thicket at White Rock Lake (near the Corinthian Sail Club, north of the Bath House Cultural Center), 430 E. Lawther. Also, don’t forget, this summer your youngsters can be a part of the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club. Regular reading throughout the summer vacation keeps academic skills sharp, inspires curiosity, enhances comprehension and vocabulary, and starts a habit for young people to become lifelong readers and learners. In an effort to encourage the whole family to read, Mayor Mike Rawlings kicked off the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club, an eight-week program powered by community participation and featuring weekly incentive prizes. Registration opened May 19. All 29 Dallas Public Library locations as well as the Dallas Public Library’s Bookmobile are participating.
