When one reaches thirty-something weddings are not the ubiquitous events they once were. So Wildcats attending the recent nuptials of Joe DeGanley Jones ’76 and actress Sally-Page waxes nostalgic.

Joe is the last of the progeny of Dr. George Jones ’30 to marry. Jimmy ’74, Judy Jones Rodgers ’77 and Drs. Jay and jeff ’78 preceded him.

Woodrow exes attending were Phil Rolland, Dr. Mike Dixon, Ken Sturges, Rick Rodriguez, Scott Storm, Joe Blanchard, Joe Sholden, best man Paul Thompson and yours truly, all from the Class of ’76. Paul’s wife, Gayle Parish Thompson ’77, and Grayson Wales ’78 also attended.

After the ceremony and reception at Highland Park Presbyterian, the festivities became Bohemian-bent by moving to Caribe-B on Lower Greenville. The beat of steel drums lured Toby Shook and Kurt Messerschmitt, both infamous party monsters from ’76.

Later, the revelers crossed the street to pick up honeymoon supplies from Kevin Gallagher ’78, who owns the Rubber Tree. Joe and Sally then left for Burlington, Vt., Montreal and Quebec.

Speaking of Travel…

“Honeymoon in Vegas” is Burton Gillam’s ’56 latest movie.

Becky Yates Jones ’80 (no relation to Joe) honeymooned in Paris before returning to her duties as chief financial officer of Highland Park Cafeterias.

New parents Rick ’76 and Shelley Rodriguez took son Brody to Bermuda. His sister, Cindy Rodriguez Lane ’77, has moved to Saudi Arabia with husband Andy and daughters Natalie and Jessica.

Joe Sheldon ’76 and wife Sharon cruised Scandinavia and Russia. Joe’s dad, Joe ’39, is a grandpa again. John ’79 and Ginger Sholden recently gave birth to Jeffrey Harris.

Tom Wisley ’57 is now a professor at Tokyo Christian University.

Teachers Betty Parrett and Monty Holoman took a group of Woodrow kids to Europe this summer, just in time for the Olympics in Spain.

Fred ’41 and wife Betty Jordan were featured in the Dallas Morning News for their trips to Mexico, Spain, Portugal and the Panama Canal.

Miriam Hiser ’79 took time from her high-powered San Francisco law practice to visit France and Russia.

Speaking of the Hisers, they’ll be adding a Harvard decal to the back of their station wagon, which already sports stickers from Yale, Princeton, the U.S. Naval Academy, Vanderbilt and Wesleyan.

Bill ’83 will be studying cardiology with the Crimson. Older brother Lt. Cmdr. Kenyon Hiser ’76, whose ship – the U.S.S. Arleigh Burke – was recently featured on the Discovery Channel, has been promoted to second-in-command of the U.S.S. Kidd.
