Yes, we finally had a 100-degree yesterday — the second consecutive, in fact, with a forecast for five or six more in a row. But it could be much, much worse, and not just because we didn’t have our first 100-degree day until Aug. 11. That’s the sixth latest it has ever been 100 in the 109 years the Weather Service has been keeping records, for anyone keeping score. And yes, there have been two years — 1973 and 1906 — without a 100-degree day.
Why could it be worse? Because at this time last year, we hit 100 on Aug. 8 and then had 18 consecutive days when the high was at least 102 and when it reached 105 four times.
