The evening focused on corporate employees and shareholders doing their part to ensure greener operations. A key sentiment was that environmental laws cannot be quickly altered — they take time to plan, implement and take effect. Lawmakers should take time to get them right because the public demands it; in the meantime, the environment cannot be allowed to backslide.

“We were thrilled with the outcome of our first annual Environmental Awareness Dinner,” says Ted Ellis, president of the White Rock Lake Foundation board of directors.

Board members Demonse Williams and Susan Falvo visit with a guest at the Environmental Awareness Dinner.

“Those in attendance shared a passion for environmental protection and awareness, especially when it comes to preserving local treasures like White Rock Lake.”

Constructed in 1910 and located in the heart of Dallas, White Rock Lake is the largest urban lake in the nation. Its surrounding park is a place for cycling, picnics, sailing, bird watching and countless other activities.

The White Rock Lake Foundation works to preserve and improve White Rock Lake; fundraising events such as the Environmental Awareness Dinner and the group’s annual golf tournament play a key role in those efforts.

The foundation will host the Environmental Awareness Dinner again in Spring 2019. For information about the White Rock Lake Foundation and its upcoming events, visit www.whiterocklakefoundation.org.

Speakers at the event were Eugenia Canakes Robbins, Joe Guida, Willis Winters, Scott Deatherage, Jim Henderson and Shelley Pridgen.
