I don’t know what is more exciting about this opportunity … the chance to help the Woodrow Wilson High School PTA earn $10,000 … the chance to be part of a TV commercial for NutriSystem … or the chance to meet singer Tony Orlando (of Tie A Yellow Ribbon ‘Round the Ole Oak Tree and Knock Three Times fame)?

You and some friends have the chance to do all of that, thanks to neighborhood resident Jordan Kaiser, the parent of a Woodrow senior and producer of the TV commercial. Kaiser needs 150 adults (no students for this commercial) to be available the afternoon of Thursday, October 4; location is probably the Lakewood Theater but that’s pending. You’ll probably be hanging around most of the afternoon (and possibly into early evening), so you would probably want to bring a book, a magazine (the October Advocate will be out by then) or something else to keep you busy.

You don’t need to have a Woodrow connection for this project, just a willingness to help some neighborhood parents and students. Woodrow’s PTA needs to commit that they’ll have 150 adults there by Friday, Sept. 21, and they’re worried about making the number. If you can help, or if you need more information, sent a note to PTA president Emily Martin at PTAatWoodrow@sbcglobal.net or call 214-327-0068. Everyone participating also will be entered in a raffle to win a 42-inch LCD TV.

Pointless trivia: I just saw Tony Orlando on ABC’s Good Morning America morning show a few days ago, and he looks the same as I remembered from his salad days after apparently losing 100 pounds while using NutriSystem, a diet program.
