The marinara sauce is the biggest draw, says Tony Zhuta, manager and namesake of Tony’s Pizza & Pasta. “My mom makes it and doesn’t let anyone else know the recipe.” And that’s pretty much what you expect from a family-owned and -run Italian restaurant. “It’s small and cozy,” says Zhuta, who has been running the restaurant with mom Mirfit for three years. In addition to her secret sauce, Mirfit cooks up a mean lasagna that also keeps folks coming back for more. Other favorites include the Chicken Arabiata, a chicken breast sautéed in white wine with garlic and chives served with pasta, and of course the specialty pizzas such as the Florentine with spinach, tomato and mushroom. Another big hit, says Zhuta, is the restaurant’s BYOB policy. Customers can bring in their own beer and wine at no charge (Tony’s supplies the frosty mugs and wine glasses). Friday nights are usually the busiest at Tony’s, so make sure to keep in mind that it’s first come, first served.
