If you’ve driven by the corner of Skillman and Live Oak lately, you might have done a double take trying to figure out what’s in the old Tipperary Inn space.

Good news: It’s still the Tipperary, though under new ownership. Partners Tim Russi, Dutch Whigham and Tudor Pope reopened the restaurant in May, and much about the pub is the same.

Chef Ray Benning, who was with the Tipp when longtime owner Martin Lombard ran it, is back in the kitchen, and he has brought much of the old staff with him. That being the case, the menu of traditional Irish food is much the same.

The new owners, who worked together in telecom until that industry suffered massive layoffs, haven’t touched the restaurant’s décor, preferring to keep the old neighborhood haunt as it was.

And slowly, says Russi, locals are starting to realize the Tipp is back in business.

“We want to thank everybody for being so warmly received in the short period of time we’ve been open,” he says. “Hopefully, our business will continue to grow.”

Visit tippinn.com for information, including the menu and a calendar of events (the pub features live music Thursday-Saturday nights).
