Tiki aficionados Marty Reyes and Jen Ann Tonic will open the up-and-coming bar, Swizzle, at 1802 Greenville Ave. in the former Rocko’s Pizza space, CultureMap reported.

“We just signed the lease on Thursday and are working quickly to get everything moving,” Tonic told the publication. “We are a few months away from anything big happening.”

The brick-and-mortar bar will serve the same rum-inspired drinks and famous mai tais that made the pop-up a hit with tropical drink lovers when it first opened in 2016.

Since then, the couple has organized many luaus and exotic music events. In 2019, they organized Dallas Tiki Week, which featured tiki-friendly bars, such as Gung Ho, Sand Bar and 4 Kahunas.

Although Tonic is a California native, she was raised on Hawaiian music by her mother, a hula dancer, and her grandfather, who lived in Hawaii for much of his life. Since adolescence, she has collected barware, cocktail books and vintage spirit ads to hang in her own tiki bar, CultureMap reported.

But Swizzle wouldn’t be complete without Reyes, the lead cocktail creator. He’s worked in the service industry for 25 years and has an impressive collection of Hawaiian shirts and tiki necklaces.
