The Friends of the Aldredge House will hold its second annual Lantern Walk Dec. 2 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Costumed docents will take guests on a guided tour of the Aldredge House at 5500 Swiss Avenue in all of its holiday finery. You can visit four decorated houses and sample drinks and treats in each. Hear stories about the holiday season on Swiss Avenue in the 1900’s. Town criers leading the Lantern Walk tours will recount Christian and Jewish celebrations that took place on Swiss Avenue. The Woodrow Wilson Variations Choir will sing carols.
Expect decorations in all styles from historic to modern, says Joanne Hampton, who is on the board of the Friends of Aldredge House. A house on La Vista, owned by Wayne Noble and Barry Jones, features more than 40 Christmas trees.
Tickets for members of the Friends of Aldredge House will be $60 and $75 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased via Paypal at friendsofaldredgehouse.org or with cash at Talulah & Hess, 5810 Live Oak, or at the door at the Aldredge House. Valet service and a trolley will be available.
The Friends of Aldredge House, a non-profit organization, was established to provide long term financial security and support for one of Dallas’ most architecturally significant homes. It is the goal of the organization to preserve the Aldredge House as a museum home and public meeting space for educational outreach on preservation.
