DOT receives no government funding, but depends on donations from individuals and businesses.

We are a grassroots organization of people helping people in need, enabling them to live and die with dignity.

Most of DOT’s clients are people such as you and me who have lost almost everything, including family, friends, jobs, insurance and homes. They are literally falling through the cracks.

To benefit DOT, the second annual “Deep In The Heart of East Dallas…a Street Dance” will be held Sept. 16 in the Courtyard of First Interstate Bank – Lakewood. The theme of this year’s party is “Rock’nRoll ‘50s!”

We are most honored to have Dee Simmons as honorary chairperson of the event. Lou Alpert, Pat Bowman, Kim Mills and Jan Worrall are co-chairpersons.

Bill Cunningham Jr. will be master of ceremonies. Rex Aymond will be auctioneer for a live auction, which will feature jewelry, a one-of-a-kind Harley Davidson motorcycle jacket, autographed footballs – and much more. Entertainment will be by “Custom Made”.

Sponsors of the event will be honored at a pre-party given by Sally Rambo and the Lakewood Country Club. Round-trip taxi service to and from the country club will be provided by the Thunderbird Club of Dallas.

A large silent auction will be chaired by Karen Priddy with autographed items from sports figures, celebrities and political figures, along with many gift certificates and items from area businesses and supporters.

Other activities will include fingerprinting for children by the Dallas Police Department; fortune telling by Madame Beverly, otherwise known as Beverly Parkhurst; tarot card reading by Tory; numerology reading by Sandra Hertel; a jail to have friends and enemies arrested, sponsored by Texas Blooms; a picture-taking booth with costumes by Jane Goodman; photographs by Steve Turner and Les Wollam and butt sketches by Krandel Lee Newton. Rounding out the evening will be memorabilia sales, a dance and costume contest, and special drawings.
