On Thursday, June 26, District 9 City Council member Paula Blackmon released a statement that the city will now focus on storm debris collection, thus suspending regular brush and bulk item collection until further notice. Non-storm-related debris placed at the curb will not be collected.

According to the document, the Department of Sanitation Services has worked six to seven days per week to collect more than 400,000 cubic yards of debris left from the May 28 storm. Total estimated volume of storm debris collected thus far: is over 200,000 cubic yards. Total estimated volume of storm debris remaining is 200,000 cubic yards.

Crews are following its regular brush and bulky item monthly collection schedule, which typically takes one week to pass through each designated geographic area. However, due to the volume of debris, it is taking approximately two weeks to complete each neighborhood.

At this rate, sanitation is slated to complete the first storm debris pass citywide by July 26.

A Temporary Debris Storage and Reduction Site is placed at 12000 Greenville Ave. to allow for quicker disposal trips and to reduce collection time for debris in
Neighborhoods.

Sanitation launched a webpage with detailed information for residents, including a map showing the areas where collection crews are currently working and where they will be going next. A live-chat feature is also available to connect customers with Sanitation staff during regular business hours to assist with questions about storm debris removal.
