Summer is just around the corner, and that means many students will go hungry while missing school-provided breakfasts and lunches. An East Dallas nonprofit is preparing for the deficiency through its annual Stock Up for Summer campaign.

The Wilkinson Center will launch its fourth annual Stock Up for Summer campaign in late March and early April. Collection of food, household cleaning products and personal hygiene products will last until May, with distribution taking place in June, July and August.

Stock up for Summer provides organizations, corporations, associations and businesses with opportunities to help struggling neighbors by hosting food drives, donating food, hosting fundraising campaigns, making financial donations and providing volunteers. Neighbors can make a donation here.

The Wilkinson Center is preparing to launch a mobile food pantry next month, but until then, curbside dropoff and pickup of items is available. Volunteers will also deliver donations to senior citizens at their residences.

The Wilkinson Center started at Munger Place Church as a food pantry. It is now located at 3402 N. Buckner Blvd. and offers food services, job training and adult education classes. Last year, the center helped 10,000 people, and this summer, the center expects to serve approximately 2,300 individuals per month.
