The scholarships are given to DISD seniors from Irma L. Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, and James Madison, Lincoln, North Dallas and Woodrow high schools. Eligible students must be attending a secondary school in Texas; the scholarships are paid out in $1,250 annual increments, provided that the students maintain a 3.0 GPA at their school.

The Fair established the scholarship program, along with a companion program for Texas students who participate in the Fair’s livestock shows, in 1992; more than $2.8 million has been distributed since the program’s inception. This year’s State Fair of Texas runs from Sept. 28-Oct. 21.
