The State Fair of Texas is canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but Bowlski’s and Buzzbrews are partnering to provide neighbors with their first taste of fair food for the season.
A state fair pop-up will operate from 4-11 p.m. Sept. 5-6 and 11-13 at the car wash next to Lakewood Landing.
It will serve state fair regulars, such as sausage on a stick, as well as state fair-inspired menu items like Bowlski’s award-winning turkey leg corn dog pot pie.
The restaurant will also roll out a signature drink, the Frozen Ranch Water. Frozen margaritas, Jell-O shots, beer, seltzer and two for $20 wine bottles will also be available for purchase.
The State Fair of Texas is organizing its own drive-thru event on the weekends from Sept. 25-Oct. 18. Attendees can drive through the fair grounds and pick up Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs and other fair foods and enjoy them in a designated parking lot for a picnic.
Bowlski’s owners Craig and Jennifer Spivey own the 6 Ticket Beer Barn on the Cotton Bowl Plaza and the Icehouse on the Midway and wanted to create their own abbreviated version of the state fair.
“Losing the state fair this year is super tough, but this will help us keep the vibe alive,” Craig Spivey said.

“I know how important the beer barn is to everyone, so I wanted a chance to roll it out.”
