The Skillman Southwestern Library Friends (SSLF) has donated to the North Oak Cliff Library Friends (NOCLF) to support critical needs at the local branch.
Earlier this year, the Dallas City Council approved the 2025-26 fiscal year budget of $5.5 billion without funding to keep the Skillman Southwestern Branch Library open. The branch closed at the end of September this year.
Sue Ramirez with SSLF said in an email that the nonprofit group is devastated by the loss of the library. However, with left over available funds at the time the City closed the Skillman Southwestern branch, she said SSLF reached out to every active Library Friends group supporting Dallas Public Library branches to see if they needed support.
The North Oak Cliff Library Friends indicated the need for sufficient funds with no other branch library Friends group requested funds from SSLF, Ramirez said.
Remaining funds will be used to support other Dallas Public Library activities benefitting all library locations.Â
Following a submitted proposal, SSLF issued a donation of $10,000 to the North Oak Cliff Library Friends. A majority of the funds will go toward enhancing the Children’s area, according to NOCLF president Diana Rosales.
The North Oak Cliff Library Friends are planning a celebration to present the branch with the purchased items next year on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m.
