Neighbohood resident and CNN reporter Ed Lavandera was punked by ABC's Jimmy Kimmel.

Neighborhood resident Ed Lavandera didn’t expect his snowy visit to Oklahoma City to turn him into a national phenomenon, but that’s what a video appearance on ABC TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live talk show will do for you.

Lavandera is a reporter for CNN, and he was in OKC doing one of those trademark TV reporter standup routines, telling everyone how much snow was pelting Oklahoma (he could have stayed in Dallas for that story). Anyway, Lavandera is talking it up on the TV report when a pickup crosses behind him as he stands in a vacant lane of a street.

In the video, Lavandera makes a point of commenting about the importance of being careful when broadcasting from the street when — BAM — some type of pickup truck races into the screen and crunches Lavandera, big-time.

The “comedy” bit and creative video editing, apparently conjured by Kimmel’s writers, seems so real that Lavandera says friends have called him to see how he’s doing.

“I’ve spent the week reassuring friends and family I’m OK,” Lavandera says. “I keep telling them I’m walking around in a body cast. That seems funnier!”
