The Open Door Preschool in East Dallas is struggling. The school provides low-cost education for students whose primary language is not English.
"Like a lot of nonprofits, we are losing a lot of our donors," says Mark Vangeison of Grace United Methodist Church, which started the school in 1971. "Some large contributors that have always given were not able to give this year."
The school hopes to make some of that up at a silent auction Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the school. Auction items include four tickets to Disney World; Christmas wreaths; gift certificates to restaurants, spas and hotels; and lots of home decor items.
