Same face. Different venue.
For the annual White Rock Lake benefit concert, that is. Held every fall, it’s an event many in the neighborhood have come to know and love.
And this year, little has changed about its tried-and-true formula. Tickets are still $50 and include a reserved seat, dinner, dessert, beer and wine. Also back this year is singer/songwriter John McCutcheon, who has generously donated his time to this event four years running.
What has changed, however, is where McCutcheon will take the stage. Recently completed, the Trammell Crow Visitor Education Pavilion will open to the public Oct. 4, making the McCutcheon concert an excellent time to check out the Arboretum’s new digs.
And, as usual, proceeds benefit a good cause: improving and beautifying White Rock Lake. Funds raised will support volunteer programs as well as go toward purchasing new drinking fountains, trash and recycling receptacles and landscaping.
But there’s also a special nationwide project planned this year. With a portion of the proceeds, organizers plan to install a life-size bronze statue commemorating members of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), many of whom helped build the lake’s most important features in the 1930s and ’40s. Once installed, the statue will be the first of its kind in Texas .
