Five city pools could get the axe under the city’s proposed 2011-2012 budget, but the pool at Tietze Park isn’t one.

The Tietze pool is open from 1-8 p.m., Thursday through Monday until Sunday, Aug. 21. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.

For the past several years, the pool has closed for the season right before school starts, and the current budget proposal would keep the pool open for the same hours and season. And City Council member Angela Hunt wants feedback from the community on whether the pool should be open even longer next year.

She asks: “With the same weather trend anticipated next summer, would folks want the pool open in the evenings, perhaps from 5-8 p.m. on weekdays and maybe all day Saturday and Sunday through mid-September?”

Or come to the town hall budget meeting she hosts with Sheffie Kadane at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at St. Thomas Aquinas School, 3741 Abrams, in the drama room. The Friends of Tietze Park will be there, handing out stickers for neighbors to wear in a show of support for the park.
