Two Dallas ISD educators who live in East Dallas received awards from the Rotary Club for their service to students.
The winners were Brittnay Connor, a bilingual teacher at Paul Dunbar Learning Center and Shelly Thibodaux, a physical education and athletic coordinator at Robert T. Hill Middle School. Our neighbors were joined by Yvonne Morgan, a career and technical education teacher at the School of Health Professions.
Each received a $2,500 check and recognition plaque.
The winners were nominated by their peers, principal or the general public and selected based on six factors: performance above the job description, activities that benefit the community, activities that benefit disadvantaged or at-risk students, actions exhibiting selfless conduct toward others, demonstration of innovation and creativity in the classroom and the nominee’s personal philosophy statement.
Connor, a teacher of five years, taught herself robotics and coding to create a robotics curriculum that has improved students’ math grades. She also implemented a social studies program that introduces students to people from around the world to promote cultural awareness and understanding.
Over 39 years of teaching, Thibodaux has secured iPads and college scholarships through Nancy Lieberman Charities. She also oversees 10 sports and sponsors the annual Girl Scouting in the School Day.
