Next month, the YMCA at White Rock hosts the Healthy Kids Day 5K, One-Mile Fun Run and a Healthy Kids Day Fair. The events coincide with the third anniversary of our neighborhood’s new YMCA facility and are designed to bring exposure to its programs.
“Whether you want to run in the 5K, bring your family to the one-mile Fun Run, or just attend the fair, this event will improve the health and wellness of all the families in our community,” says Val England, executive director of the YMCA.
“We are excited to partner with our sponsors to provide a day of fun, food, games and health that kids of all ages will enjoy.”
The event, which is being sponsored by Doctors Hospital, recently received a major boost when Radio Disney signed on to market the event through nearly 100 radio spots and also will provide a DJ and music the day of the fair. Other sponsors include Advocate Publishing, publishers of Advocate and Home & Heritage magazines.
More than 40 booths also will be on hand, including bike and Rollerblade safety and a Police Department booth where officers will demonstrate car-seat safety and fingerprint kids. And, of course, no neighborhood fair would be complete with an inflatable bounce house and rock-climbing wall. The event’s organizers are hoping to get some local restaurants on board to provide food; meanwhile, the Dallas Fire Department has agreed to bring its smokehouse.
However, Rick Casner, a member of the Y’s board of directors, says sponsors and exhibitors are still needed for the event. Sponsorships are available for $1,000-$2,500.
The event will be held at the YMCA April 12. The races begin at 8:30 a.m., and the fair will follow from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Admission to the Fair is free, and race registration fees are $20 for the 5K, which is certified and will be administered by Run-On, and $10 for the Fun Run. Fees include a T-shirt. Any profit made after clearing expenses, Casner says, will be used to fund YMCA-related community programs.
