Neighbors who find themselves nervously avoiding potholes and rough patches on Abrams Road may be thrilled to hear that road improvements are scheduled for 2020.

The proposed project focuses on making modifications to Abrams Road between Richmond Avenue and South Beacon Street. When completed, the road will have enhanced sidewalks, bike lanes and on-street parking, according to a project fact sheet from the City of Dallas.

Most of the bike lanes will be at street level with a physical buffer, but they will be at sidewalk height in locations of shared use, officials said at a public meeting July 29.

The designs were created from public input sessions, and officials hope the improvements align with the community’s vision of a neighborhood that can accommodate a higher population density.

The traffic-calming improvements estimated at $3.75 million will be paid for through a bond program passed in 2017.

Construction is set to begin in February 2020 and is expected to take about a year to complete.
