E Bar

E Bar is that rare Tex-Mex joint that feels both old and new in all the right ways. Opened in August of 2012 by Eddie Cervantes, the driving force behind Primo’s, E Bar has a stylish wood bar and exposed brick inside, with concrete floors and flat screen TVs on the patios. New-to-the-neighborhood hipsters mix with longtime locals, and Eddie surveys all from his barstool in the center of the action.

When my group visited, we shared brisket tacos, fish tacos and Jorge’s tacos, and it was a virtual food fight ‘til every delightful morsel was gone. The slow-cooked brisket with onion and poblano peppers was moist and heaped onto the soft flour tortillas. The grilled tilapia tacos with crisp cabbage were served with a delicious queso fresco and tasty black beans. Best of all was Jorge’s platter, with four crispy corn tacos stuffed with melted cheese, fresh jalapenos and fajita beef. Heaven.

Also on the menu are a variety of traditional Tex-Mex dishes, from nachos to flautas, from carne guisada to chile relleno. They have several grilled items, including shrimp, chicken breast and, of course, fajitas, and they have an extensive breakfast menu, including huevos rancheros and migas, served “anytime.”

E Bar stays busy during special events and sports seasons, and they have a lively happy hour Monday through Friday from 4-7 p.m., when drinks are $1 off. Favorites include margaritas and Mexican beer, but they offer domestic beer, wine and a full bar.

E Bar is open 7 days a week, beginning at 11 a.m., and they’re at 1901 N. Haskell Ave at Munger.
