May 15 is the magic date for restaurants. It seems everyone wants to open today. And by everyone, I mean three East Dallas food spots.
Zoës Kitchen, Steel City Pops, and Knife all picked May 15 as the day they wanted to host their grand opening. Which begs the question, did they make their self-imposed deadlines?
Last night around 7 p.m., Greenville was crawling with folks on their way to Steel City Pops’ soft opening. Steel City Pops, a new gourmet popsicle joint on Lower Greenville, sent out more than 300 invites to people in Dallas, requesting their appearance at the invite-only soft opening. I popped in yesterday morning to see how Steel City was faring, and they were scrambling a bit to finish all the prep work, but by 7 p.m. they were ready for business. Knife
It took a while for Zoës Kitchen to start construction on the old Snow Pea location off Abrams, but once they did, the Mediterranean-inspired, fast-casual restaurant chain made short work of turning the dingy space into a bright, colorful hummus haven. They also met their hoped-for deadline and opened today at 11 a.m.
Last but not least, Knife, the new steakhouse that replaced Central 214 in hotel Palomar, also picked May 15 as it’s projected opening day. Knife is hosting a soft opening this evening. They’re not opening for lunch just yet; that won’t happen until next week. However, they are opening for dinner and drinks. For now, it’s reservations only. So if you want to drop by, call first.
